The Teacher
Anika had an experience of lots of different styles and types of Yoga over the years, but it was the Viniyoga approach that really changed her practice and understanding of Yoga and led her to become a teacher. Anika first trained through the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) with Dave Charlton, achieving the BWY diploma. She then went on to complete the Art of Individual Teaching course (AIT) with Dave Charlton and Ranju Roy, qualifying her as an Association of Yoga Studies (AYS) practitioner and Yoga Therapist.
Anika’s teaching background is deeply rooted in the Viniyoga tradition. The idea of making the Yoga fit the student instead of applying the same practice to everyone. Traditionally, this would be done seeing students on a 1-1 basis, developing their own practice, to work with in their own time by themselves at home.
Anika applies this way of working in group classes by providing modifications and variations, where needed and by encouraging everyone to work at their own pace, and with the their own length of breath.
During the group classes there is an emphasis on linking breath and movement, as well as working with stays in postures (asana). Each practice also brings breathing exercises (pranayama), visualization and meditative aspects to the class.
Anika is also focussing on Yoga Therapy, and the application of Yoga to the individual, working on a 1-1 basis.
Anika has completed the BWY Teaching Practice Observation Training (TPOT) and is available to observe student teachers as part of their teacher training.
She is a Thai Yoga Massage Practitioner.
Anika is on the Register of Exercise Professionals (REP), Level 3.
She is also a qualified ASA Level 2 swimming instructor and a Reiki Master.
